His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, held a State visit to the Republic of Singapore during which HH met Her Excellency President Halima Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore. An official reception ceremony were held for HH at the Istana Palace, HH and HE President Halima Yacob stressed the deep bilateral relations between the two friendly countries during their meeting.
The Emir of the State of Qatar also held talks with Singapore's Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, these talks witnessed the review of bilateral relations in addition to discussing developments in the situation at the regional and international levels. A signing ceremony was held at the Istana where two agreements and five memorandums of understanding were signed in various areas of cooperation.
The High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Singapore was addresses during the talks, which is co-chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior for the Qatari side, and His Excellency Mr. Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security for the Singaporean side.
Both leaders considered that the High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) is the main pillar of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Since its establishment in 2006, the committee has contributed to strengthening and deepening bilateral relations in many fields and have contributed to the signing of 28 bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding between both countries.
His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Mr. Lee Hsien Loong both stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and agreed to incorporate the Implementation Monitoring Mechanism (IMM) under the High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) framework to ensure regular follow-up and optimal implementation of the initiatives. Five Technical Committees were established in the sectors of Information Communication Technology, Security, Business, Legal, and Sustainability, co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries.
These committees will provide an opportunity for communication between the ministers and representatives of the two countries to communicate closely and effectively. The two sides agreed to hold the first meeting of the Implementation Monitoring Mechanism (IMM) the implementation of the work of the High Level Joint Committee (HLJC) in Doha in 2018.
