Qatar joined on Wednesday 7th August 2019 the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, known as the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
The instrument of accession to the convention was signed by HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, who heads the state's delegation to the high-level conference on mediation and international dispute resolution currently underway in Singapore.
With this accession, Qatar is at the forefront of the signatories to this model convention aimed at facilitating litigation procedures and providing alternative means of resolving disputes in a quick manner, in accordance with the latest methods in place to establish completed justice.
During the signing ceremony, which witnessed the presence of representatives from a number of countries of the world, HE the Minister of Justice affirmed that Qatar's signing of this important agreement comes within the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to establish a national legislative and legal system to keep pace with the rapid developments witnessed by the society and the world in all fields.
HE al-Jafali also pointed out that Qatar's joining of this agreement reflects the state's keenness to support the international system in all that would uphold the rule of law and provide the appropriate environment for security, peace and social justice. The minister stressed that the government of Qatar continues to develop and modernise its legal system according to a deliberate plan in line with the objectives and aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Qatari delegation will review the country's legal experience and discuss areas of co-operation and exchange of experience in bilateral meetings with a number of friendly countries.
The Qatari-Singaporean Joint Committee was held on Tuesday 6th August 2019 in Singapore as part of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries for co-operation in the legal field.
The Qatari side was led by HE Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, while the Singaporean side was headed by Minister of Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugam.
The meeting dealt with means of enhancing co-operation in all legal fields and exchanging expertise in training, rehabilitation and real estate registration.
